About the Health Service

Wide Bay Hospital and Health Services (WBHHS) is situated in one of Queensland’s most iconic and naturally beautiful regions at the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. It is a leading healthcare provider in Queensland, responsible for the delivery of public hospital and health services. The Health Service provides acute care services to a population of over 225,000 residents including several rural communities.

About the Role

As Chief Information Officer, you will report to the Executive Director Finance & Performance. You will work closely with the Board, Chief Executive, and the Executive Leadership team to design and implement digital strategies that align with WBHHS’s vision for an efficient, innovative, and sustainable healthcare service, including the digital strategy and implementation for the new $1.2 billion hospital being built in Bundaberg. Other areas of focus will be cyber security, integration of clinical monitoring and assessment, virtual care and electronic medical records across the service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert analysis and advice to the Board, Chief Executive, and Executive Leadership team on digital technologies and trends.
  • Design and execute a strategic vision for digital capabilities, including virtual care, smart hospitals, business intelligence, and various clinical, operational, and administrative systems.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Cyber Security Strategy and Information Security Management System (ISMS).
  • Drive the organisation-wide data strategy, ensuring timely and actionable insights for strategic and operational service delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Queensland Health, to promote and influence digital transformation initiatives.
  • Establish and manage governance arrangements for effective delivery of ICT and IM services, ensuring alignment with WBHHS and Queensland Health objectives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and innovation within the ICT and IM team.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in information technology, business, commerce, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Senior management or executive-level leadership and experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work across various WBHHS facilities.
  • Class C motor vehicle licence.
  • Immunisation against Hepatitis B and assessment for Tuberculosis (TB) risk as per Queensland Health guidelines.


The position is an ongoing, full-time role which can be based at Bundaberg, Hervey Bay or Maryborough.
