About the Role

GV Health are seeking an experienced and dedicated Medical Practitioner with expertise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join their dynamic team as the Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. You will work in partnership with the Divisional Operations Director to achieve the efficient and effective management of the Department. You will be responsible for the provision of clinical and strategic leadership, continual monitoring and improvement of quality patient care as well as ensuring risk minimisation.

About the Health Service

Goulburn Valley Health (GV Health) is the main healthcare provider in the Goulburn Valley region, servicing a broad catchment area of approximately 120,000 people. They are the largest permanent employer in the region with over 3,000 employees spread across their five sites with main campuses located at Shepparton, Tatura and Rushworth. To meet the evolving healthcare needs of their community, they have completed Phase 1 of their redevelopment project which includes a five-storey Inpatient Unit building, expanded theatre capacity, new Critical Care Unit, a state-of-the-art Dialysis Unit, and an extension of the Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing extensive clinical practice experience in obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • Demonstrating competence in a wide range of procedures in obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • Acting as an experienced educator and teacher for medical students, trainees, and medical staff.
  • Maintaining a commitment to our values of Compassion, Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Teamwork, and Ethical Behaviour.
  • Understanding and implementing Clinical Risk Management and Quality Assurance and Improvement concepts.
  • Effectively managing change and working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Establishing and maintaining productive working relations with a diverse range of multidisciplinary staff.

Qualifications and Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Medical Practitioner.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists or equivalent.
  • Enrolment and maintenance of an ongoing continuing professional development program.
  • Good standing with all Regulatory Authorities.
  • Satisfactory National Criminal History Check and Victorian ‘Employee’ Working with Children Check prior to commencement of employment.

Desirable Skills: GV Health highly value candidates with:

  • Project conception planning and execution skills.
  • Experience in research and service development in health settings.
  • Understanding of Financial, Accounting, and Business practices and management.
  • Involvement in Community-Based Service or Volunteer Organisations.
  • Experience and higher degree qualification/s in research, Health Service Management, or equivalent (or working toward the same).


The Rural Clinical School – Shepparton, is adjacent to GV Health. It is also the home to the Doctor of Medicine Rural Pathway with a state-of-the-art teaching and learning centre and dedicated course facilitators. This provides opportunities for academic appointments with the University of Melbourne.
