Healthcare Australia is seeking an exceptional medical leader to shape the future of healthcare delivery across Australia’s Immigration Detention Network.

This newly created Head of Medical Services position offers a rare opportunity to build a national medical leadership function from the ground up, driving innovation, clinical excellence and workforce strategy across a complex and diverse healthcare environment.

Reporting directly to the Executive Manager, Primary Health Services, you will provide strategic medical leadership and clinical oversight across a broad portfolio including primary care, mental health, alcohol and other drug services, pharmacy, allied health and virtual care.

The Opportunity

As Head of Medical Services, you will play a critical role in shaping healthcare strategy, strengthening clinical governance frameworks and delivering contemporary, patient-centred models of care across a national network.

Key areas of focus include:

• Providing strategic medical leadership across a diverse healthcare service portfolio
• Driving service transformation and continuous improvement initiatives
• Developing and implementing innovative workforce and medical engagement strategies
• Strengthening clinical governance, quality and risk management frameworks
• Building strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
• Supporting the delivery of safe, compliant and high-quality healthcare services in a highly regulated environment
• Mentoring and developing medical leaders to build future capability across the organisation

About You

You are a respected and influential healthcare leader with a proven track record of delivering results in complex clinical environments.

You will bring:

• Fellowship of RACGP, ACRRM, FRACMA or an equivalent specialist qualification
• Extensive experience in senior medical leadership roles
• Strong expertise in clinical governance, healthcare operations and service improvement
• Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams through change and transformation
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and executive communication skills
• A strategic mindset combined with a practical and collaborative leadership style

Experience within correctional health, justice health, public health, community health, primary healthcare or government-funded healthcare services will be highly regarded.
